Opening in 1971, Weather Crafters was started by Jim Smith Sr. Jim Started his Career at a Norfolk based HVAC distributor sweeping the floor of the warehouse after school. He stayed there after graduating high school working his way up through the parts department all the way to territory sales manager.
In 1972 he was offered the opportunity to start a HVAC contracting business in Williamsburg. He, his wife Carole, and their 2 sons Jim Jr. and Rich moved to embark on this journey. Weather Crafters was born.
From Humble Beginnings. Starting off in a converted milking barn, Jim opened Weather Crafters with just 2 employees and a used pickup truck.
Now, 50 years later, Jim’s son Jim Jr. is running the daily operations. Jim Jr. came back to the family business 25 years ago after graduating from Thomas Nelson Community College and the NASA Apprenticeship School. Bringing his extensive knowledge of electronics and control system to go along with his knowledge of HVAC, Jim Jr. has brought an understanding of today’s technologies to our company.
